“And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, ‘Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.’ ” Luke 19:41-44 ESV
As Jesus prepares for His last days, He looked out over Jerusalem with a heavy heart. He weeps because His chosen people, the very ones for which He willingly embraces the cross, have rejected Him. They have not recognized Him as their Messiah, their Savior, the King. Because of their refusal to acknowledge Him and accept His sacrifice as the Lamb of God, Christ knows the future will bring hard times for Jerusalem – and it grieves His soul.
As you stand in the shadow of the cross, looking up to where Christ will sacrifice for you, do you acknowledge Him?
Is He your Savior – the redeemer of your soul?
Is He your Messiah – the anointed one, King of your life?
As you walk throughout your week, do you recognize His work in your life?
Do you acknowledge all the ways in which He provides?
Do you make the time to spend in His presence?
Jesus, thank You for loving us enough to embrace the cross. Thank You for walking with us throughout our busy week. Help us to acknowledge you, to make you the King of our life. Teach us how to trust You with all the details of things weighing heavy on our heart. Help us recognize Your presence as we go about our daily routine. Amen
